Cayuse Prairie Alumni
Name: Levi Birky
Cayuse Prairie Graduation Year: 2009
Class Size: ~24
Activities at Cayuse Prairie: Track & Field, X-Country, Basketball, Student Council
Their Best Memory from Cayuse Prairie: My favorite memory of Cayuse has to be the annual track and field days where we would compete with students from all over the valley in a variety of competitions. The annual geography bee, science fair, and halloween festival also have to be up there for some of my favorite memories. Additionally, Mrs. Estep let me teach a lesson to the rest of the class on Ancient Egypt!
Their Favorite Teacher: I had so many great teachers at Cayuse! Among them are Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Limberas, Mrs. Estep, Mrs. Calvert, and Mrs. Madison. However, my favorite has to be Mr. Morgan! We did an independent project where we engineered cookie cutting machines, which led me to weld and fabricate a metal cookie cutter with my dad.
High School Graduation Year: 2013
Attended High School at: Flathead High School
What They Did After High School: Bachelors in Social Studies Education, Montana State University (2017) Masters in Education, Harvard University (2022)
Where They are Living Now: I live in Kalispell, where I teach history at Glacier High School. I am also building a cabin on some family land above Lake Blaine.
What They are Doing Now: My parents still live in the area. My sister and I were the third generation of Birky's to attend Cayuse Prairie. My niece will be the fourth generation when she enrolls at Cayuse in a couple of years.
Cayuse Prairie Impact: Cayuse really set me up for success! The teachers both challenged me and supported me to pursue my dreams! The sense of community at Cayuse has to be the greatest impact. I went to school with some wonderful people that became lifelong friends. The educational experience I had at Cayuse also motivated me to become a teacher.
