Hello!
My name is Juliana Himmel and I am one of the 5th grade teachers at Cayuse Prairie; I am so excited to be a part of the Cayuse Prairie team!

I was born on the west coast and spent most of my young life moving every 3-4 years. I fell in love with the outdoors and began backpacking with my dad when I was 12. I also started riding horses and quickly developed a passion for the equestrian sport.

After attending high school in Kansas, I went on to get a B.S. in Environmental Science from the University of Missouri-Columbia. My passion for the natural world led me to take an Americorps position with Montana State Parks, and I moved to the Flathead Valley! I worked for Flathead Lake State Park and Lone Pine State Park for 2 years. During my time there I led school field trips and ran interpretive programs. While I absolutely adored this job, I wanted to have more opportunities to build relationships with students, so I decided to get my Master’s in Education from the University of Montana! I graduated in May of 2023.

Two of the most important things in my life are my cat, Rori, and my dog, Finch. Both are rescued from adoption shelters in Kansas and are loving life here in Montana! I also have a leopard gecko named Rex who lives in my classroom - he is 9 years old!

My goal as a 5th-grade teacher is to build relationships with students and help them navigate the start of middle school. I emphasize resilience, a growth mindset, hard work, and perseverance in all the subjects I teach. Life skills are just as important for students as anything else I teach them!
